Gangways

The #1 Selling Aluminum Gangways in North America

Marine gangways (also known as a ship brow or accommodation ladder) are the last thing an operator comes into contact with before stepping onto a vessel and the first thing they come into contact with when going back to shore, so they need to be rugged and dependable, but most importantly, they need to be safe and SafeRack is committed to workplace safety. This is why we manufacture durable and long-lasting aluminum safety products including:

  • Barge gangways that can be fixed to a static structure like a complex platform system or to a mobile platform to allow easy operation and storage.
  • Ship’s brows that can be stand-alone and are put into place when necessary, and then picked up and stored on the dock or vessel when not needed
  • Barge bridges to allow for safe travel between barges
  • Custom marine ramps for safe access to and from barges and ships.

OPTIONS FOR RAISING AND LOWERING

With SafeRack’s MarinaStep, you get your choice of power options to raise and lower your fixed gangways. Choose from:

  • Manually with counter-balanced springs
  • Manually with a hand-winch
  • Electric winch
  • Pneumatic cylinders
  • Pneumatic winch
  • Pneumatic over hydraulics

With a long history of building gangways, our patented ship gangways and ramps are custom designed by our engineering staff to meet your application needs and built for durable and long-lasting performance in harsh marine conditions.

The Ultimate Aluminum Dock and Ship Gangways

Marine Gangways - ships and brow aluminum gangways

Dock gangways (also known as a ship brow or accommodation ladder) are the last thing an operator comes into contact with before stepping onto a vessel and the first thing they come into contact with when going back to shore, so they need to be rugged and dependable, but most importantly, they need to be safe. SafeRack’s aluminum gangways for barge access and ship access deliver precisely that. Our advanced, corrosion-resistant aluminum marine gangways are designed for OHSA-compliant worker safety, durability and reliability in marine environments and are built-to-order to your required length and specifications.

Built to Last

Constructed of durable marine-grade aluminum or galvanized or stainless steel, our vessel gangways are available in sizes up to 50’ in length and 5’ in width. Special-purpose gangways exceeding those measurements can also be built. Whatever your need, SafeRack’s MarinaStep personnel can engineer the perfect product for your unique needs.

And they’re built to last, too. Constructed of durable aluminum, galvanized or stainless steel, our vessel gangways are available in sizes up to 24′ in length and 5′ in width. However, special-purpose gangways exceeding those measurements can also be built.

SafeRack’s commitment to workplace safety manufactures durable and long-lasting aluminum marine gangwaysdock gangways and custom marine ramps for safe access barges and ships. With a long history of building gangways our patented ship gangways and ramps are custom designed by our engineering staff to meet your application needs and built for durable and long-lasting performance in harsh marine conditions.

Spring Counterbalanced Barge Gangway

For applications that span shorter distances, spring counterbalanced gangways can make operating the access systems virtually effortless, as the durable springs are designed to help lower and raise the gangways. Additionally, our spring counterbalanced SAS ship gangways arrive completely assembled for easy installation.

Stage (SG-Series) Marine Gangways

SG-series Marine GangwayMarine Stage Gangway

Our SG series aluminum gangways for barge and ship access use a rugged U-body construction to provide a live load capacity of 750 pounds and can be custom constructed to accommodate even higher load capacities.

  • Standard brow lengths available up to 20 degrees
  • Standard widths up to 40″
  • Variable truss depth to accommodate your specific gangway length and capacity requirements

Simple, but strong

Depending on the operating angles needed, you can choose from several walk surface styles to improve footing when operating at steeper angles on your brow. Choose from a flat ramp (diamond tread or our stamped aggressive tread used on self-adjusting stair (SAS) series), add cleats to a flat ramp walk surface to allow up to a 30-degree incline, or choose our custom extruded curved treads to allow up to 45 degrees of operation.

As for handrails, use ropes to secure the vessel to the dock, not to keep your operators from falling off the brow. Ship access can be a dangerous thing in volatile conditions; make that access as safe as possible. Our handrails are laser cut from 2” square tube and robotically welded from continuous pieces to provide structural stability to the gangway and give your operators the very best in fall prevention. To further set the standard, our handrails get powder coated with high visibility orange giving an aesthetic value that will last for years.

Whether you’re searching for a simple barge ramp or a sophisticated boarding gangway that consists of platforms dealing with large tidal swings requiring ships ladders or even A-frame stairs on the barge or ship side, we’ve got the solution for you. Truss (TG-Series) Marine Gangways

Truss (TG-Series) Marine Gangways

Our rugged U-body construction provides a standard live load capacity of 750 pounds and can be custom constructed to accommodate even higher load capacities.

  • Standard lengths available up to 50′
  • Standard widths up to 5′
  • Variable truss depth to accommodate your specific gangway length and capacity requirements

Additionally, you can choose from four different walk surfaces to improve your footing when operating at steeper angles. We offer extruded and open-grating decking as a flat walk surface, cleated flat walk surfaces to allow for greater operating angles or extruded curved treads for the most aggressive operating angles. Handrails are powder-coated to ensure long-lasting user safety and stability. Stage gangways can span up to 20 feet and truss gangways span up to 50’. Either one of these types of gangways can be stand-alone, or they can be incorporated into a more complex and fixed system using pivots, hinges, end-treads, and all other kinds of accessories to fit your exact needs.

Equipment to consider for any marine loading project should be:

  1. Truss Style Gangways
Have a more level access point that spans a small or large distance? Truss-style gangways are perfect for this situation because they are constructed to span a large distance while keeping a stable and safe access point to the vessel. The truss-style gangways can be engineered to adapt to various heights while keeping a stable incline or decline.

  2. Self-Adjusting and Leveling Stairs
Self-adjusting and leveling stairs (SAS gangways) are perfect for those situations that call for various levels of stairs to access and the ability to fold down, or up, the gangway stairs easily and out of the way.
